The NWS Forecast over California

The National Digital Forecast Database is the National Weather Service's official gridded forecast — the same numbers behind every point forecast on weather.gov, prepared by forecasters at the local offices rather than produced directly by a model. For California that means the grid carries the judgment of the six NWS offices that share the state, each editing its own piece of the mosaic.

The camera opens on the state; the sector chips and jump menus drill to an office's area, and Shift with the arrow keys walks to the neighbouring one. Click any city for its full time series through the forecast. To see how far the forecasters moved from their first guess, the Compare tool in the drawer draws the National Blend over this grid at the same valid time, or subtracts it.
